Professional Development Plan & Goals
Below are my professional development goals and plan that were created during my time at Xavier University. These goals focused on my own personal goals within the OTD program, my capstone goals, my goals 1 year post-graduation, and 5 years post-graduation.
OTD Program Goal
Commit to 1 capstone topic by January 1st, 2024 & 1 capstone site by December 1, 2025.
Objective 1: Continue to research different capstone topics by reading research journals & other capstone projects.
Objective 2: Communicate and ask questions to occupational therapists who work in my interest areas.
1-Year Post Graduation
Obtain a job within a mental health or related setting.
Objective 1: Discuss opportunities with occupational therapists who work in a mental health setting.
Objective 2: Research different Cincinnati locations that hire mental health occupational therapists.
5-Years Post Graduation
Accept a Level I & Level II Fieldwork student from Xavier University.
Objective 1: Connect with Stacia Galey to let her know about my willingness to accept a student.
Objective 2: Talk to other occupational therapists who have supervised fieldwork students and gain their perspectives on their experience.
Professional Development Goals 2025
OTD Program Goals
By December of 2025, I will successfully graduate the Xavier University OTD program and receive my diploma.
Activity 1: Successfully complete my last 2 semesters within the program, including passing both level 2 fieldwork placements.
Activity 2: Receive support from both my peers and faculty through the last 2 semesters, asking for help and advice when needed.
By June of 2025, I will successfully pass and complete both level 2 fieldworks and feel more confident in treating patients with various conditions.
Activity 1: Consistently ask my fieldwork instructors questions if I am needing additional support.
Activity 2: Seek constructive feedback from my fieldwork instructors throughout my time at the fieldwork site to improve my skills.
Capstone Goals
By December of 2025, I will successfully disseminate the results of my capstone at the doctoral capstone symposium and within the Christ Hospital network.
Activity 1: Create a presentation that is clear, organized, and legible to present to people who may not be familiar with pelvic floor occupational therapy.
Activity 2: Successfully communicate findings with both my faculty and capstone mentor and collaborate with them to determine the best way to present the results of my capstone project.
By September of 2025, I will successfully have received approval for my IRB for the survey research portion of my capstone project.
Activity 1: Submit a final draft of my IRB prior to the start of my final semester and have the IRB committee approve the IRB.
Activity 2: Connect with the individual in charge of IRBs within the Christ hospital network and successfully be added onto their IRB.
Year 1 Practice Goals
Within 1 year of graduating, I will have transitioned smoothly into my first full-time occupational therapy job.
Activity 1: Apply to multiple jobs after graduating and interview at at least 3 jobs to gain increased experience with interviewing.
Activity 2: I will connect with previous fieldwork instructors and professors to ask their opinions and gain additional insight about jobs and interviewing.
Within 1 year of graduating, I will work in an occupational therapy job within a mental health or school-based setting.
Activity 1: Discuss job opportunities with occupational therapists who work in a mental health or school-based setting and talk about their satisfaction within their preferred setting.
Activity 2: Research different Greater Cincinnati locations that hire mental health and/or school-based occupational therapists and learn about their job opportunities.
Year 5 Practice Goals
Within 5 years of graduating, I will accept at least one Level I or Level II Fieldwork student from Xavier University.
Activity 1: Connect with Stacia Galey to let her know about my willingness to accept a student.
Activity 2: Talk to other occupational therapists who have supervised fieldwork students and gain their perspectives on their experience.
Within 5 years of graduating, I will have worked for as least one year at consistent job within an area of occupational therapy that I enjoy.
Activity 1: I will connect with a mentor within an area of occupational therapy I enjoy and collaborate with them to. come up with ideas on how I can find my 'dream job'.
Activity 2: I will consistently network with other occupational therapists within the Greater Cincinnati Area and collaborate with them, increasing my ability to connect with occupational therapists within various settings.
